What the Future Holds for St. Mary's
RenewalWorks Prayer for Discernment:
Almighty and everliving God, source of all wisdom and understanding,
be present with us as we consider the renewal and mission of our congregation.
Teach us in all things to seek first your honor and glory.
Guide us by your Holy Spirit to perceive what is right,
and grant us both the courage to pursue it, and the grace to accomplish it
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) and St. Mary’s Episcopal Church reached a mutually beneficial agreement. UCO obtains our property which sits across the street from their land-locked campus, and St. Mary's receives acres of land on North Broadway and enough money to begin the process towards construction of a new church. That new facility will sit adjacent to the property of St. Mary’s Episcopal School. The transaction was completed on September 19,2016; however, St. Mary's will remain at our current location for up to three years while a new church is being constructed.
This opportunity opens up all kinds of possibilities for the future: parking will no longer be an issue, our facility can be much more welcoming and inviting, space will be designed specifically for the types of activities we do, the church will be more visible, and we have the opportunity to deepen the church's relationship with our school.
In addition to the money acquired in the deal with UCO, St. Mary's has money set aside for facility expenses, so while there will be a capital campaign to help raise the funds for this project, fundraising will not
be the primary focus of our time together. St. Mary’s will continue to be a place that, first and foremost, seeks to love God and one another, which is why our congregation will be using a spiritual enrichment process, RenewalWorks, at this important time. construct a new building, but our primary task is to continue the ministry of Christ Jesus, so all of us must strive to "keep the main thing the main thing". Please, pray for this process! The prayer at the top of the page is a wonderful place for everyone to be involved daily, so that all decisions can be made with the guiding influence of the Holy Spirit.
Understandably, there is a lot of enthusiasm about this new adventure, but there is also a desire to honor our past. For example, we have a Columbarium, and it is our pledge to give the utmost care when moving the urns of those who are interred, humbled by the many people who have entrusted their deceased loved ones to our care. Additionally, anything of sentimental value will move with us, and the new church will remain consistent with our deep Episcopal heritage.
Below are some pictures that have been submitted as conversation starters for our new worship space!
Finally, we want your feedback!
There will be meetings to continue conversations about what is desired in our new building. Also, if you have suggestions or questions, please contact one of your vestry members, clergy, or use the link below to leave feedback regarding our move.
We are deeply grateful for everyone who has made St. Mary’s the wonderful place that it is, and all are invited
to be a part of this promising new future.
